HCC's trustees to meet Tuesday

The board of trustees of Harford Community College will meet in open session at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Chesapeake Center boardroom.

Anyone wishing to speak must complete a request form and return it to the marketing and public relations office before the meeting.

Information security topic of HCC class

Harford Community College will offer Certified Information Systems Security Professional certification starting this week.

This class prepares information security professionals for the CISSP certification exam.

Certification is managed by the International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium and recognizes those who have shown themselves to be experienced, knowledgeable and proficient information security practitioners.

The class will meet from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays to July 19 at the Higher Education and Conference Center at HEAT in Aberdeen.

HCC offers travel courses in Europe

Harford Community College is offering travel study courses in Greece and Italy next winter.

Courses in history and art history will be held Jan 7-18. Registration deadline is Sept. 1 and instructor permission is necessary for registration.

Students will climb the Acropolis; visit Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius; wander the streets of Florence; and visit the Forum, Colosseum, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica in Rome.

"Art and Architecture of the Ancient World" provides onsite study of the art and architecture of the ancient world, with a focus on Greece and Rome. Information: Ellen Avitts, 410-836-4000, ext. 7292.

"Exploring Ancient Civilizations" covers the foundations of Western civilization from the end of the nomadic Paleolithic era through the rise of civilizations in the Neolithic and Bronze ages, concluding with the fall of the Roman Empire. Information: Stephanie Hallock, 410-836-4262.

A service learning opportunity, separate from the classes, also is available in conjunction with the trip. Full-time HCC students can work on a project helping children in Rome. Students will pay only the program fee to cover travel expenses. Information: Dan Barnhart, 410-836-4373.

The cost of the travel program is $3,000 plus tuition. Courses are available as credit and noncredit. The program fee includes round-trip airfare from BWI Marshall Airport, all ground transportation, hotel, daily breakfast, five dinners, sightseeing tours, admission fees, travel insurance and gratuities.

A nonrefundable deposit is due at registration ($500 before July 1; first $1,000 before Sept. 1). Full payment is due Sept. 12. Tuition is additional.

Forest Hill Nursery School relocating

Forest Hill Nursery School will relocate to 2230 Rock Spring Road (Route 24) in Forest Hill for the next school year.

The school is accepting applications for the 2-day program for 3-year-olds and the 3-day program for 4-year-olds.
