Harford man gets 10 years for child porn

CRIME WATCH

A convicted Harford County child molester received a 10-year prison sentence yesterday for possessing child pornography.

U.S. District Judge J. Frederick Motz sentenced David Barry Mentzer, 51, of Joppa to the prison term followed by a lifetime of supervised release.

According to a plea agreement, authorities searched Mentzer's home in March 2006 as part of an investigation into allegations he molested one of his wife's piano students.

During the search, police found pictures of children engaged in sexually explicit conduct on his computer. Those images had been transferred across the Internet, leading to the basis for the federal charge, authorities said.

Before yesterday's sentencing in U.S. District Court in Baltimore, Mentzer had pleaded guilty in Harford County Circuit Court to a third-degree sex offense related to the molestation and was sentenced in December to 40 years in state prison.
