Rockies update

Colorado beat Houston the last two games of their series to pull out of last place in the National League West. The Rockies have won 12 of their past 18 games. Their pitching staff features several former Orioles - tomorrow's starter Lopez and relievers Jorge Julio and LaTroy Hawkins. Lopez, the Orioles' Opening Day starter three times in his five seasons here, was out a month with a strained elbow. In two starts since his return, he has pitched 10 1/3 innings, allowing six earned runs. Hawkins, Chris Ray's top setup man last season, also has been on the DL, though he has given up only one earned run in seven appearances since he was activated. The Rockies acquired Julio from Florida last month and he has allowed one run in 5 2/3 innings. Unheralded outfielder Matt Holliday went 4-for-5 yesterday to lift his average to .361. He has a major league-leading 88 hits and a 15-game hitting streak. Willy Taveras has a 12-game streak. The two teams have split six games in 2004 and 2005.
