Volunteers sought to care for felines

The Howard County Cat Club, a nonprofit nonkill cat rescue service, is seeking volunteers to care for cats in its "group home" on alternate Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Volunteers are needed to feed and cats, perform housekeeping chores and care for 14 to 18 cats that are to be adopted. Volunteers must have transportation and commit to spend two to three hours per visit. They should also have access to e-mail.

Assistance sought for Columbia fair

The Columbia City Fair Committee, a subcommittee of the Columbia 40th Birthday Task Force, is seeking volunteers for its City Fair, a celebration to be held June 29, 30 and July 1 at the Columbia Lakefront.

The event will include rides for children, food, entertainment, arts-and-crafts vendors and community exhibits.

Volunteers are needed for ticket sales, decoration, contest judging and other jobs. Set-up and breakdown shifts are also available.

Neighbor Ride helps older residents

Neighbor Ride provides transportation for older Howard County residents by using volunteer drivers.

Pregnancy-aid group seeks help

Better BedRest Inc., a nonprofit support, resource and referral service for women placed on bed rest during pregnancy, is seeking telephone volunteers who have had a bed-rest experience or have been close to someone with such an experience. An interview is required; training is provided.

Advocates sought for at-risk children

Voices for Children, a nonprofit organization, is seeking volunteers to be court-appointed advocates and mentors to abused, neglected and at-risk children in Howard County.

Volunteers must be at least 21, complete a 30-hour training program and undergo a background check. They will work with children, their families, agency professionals and the courts to ensure that the children are safe and receive appropriate services.
