Player of the Year

Jackie Doherty

Mount Hebron

The senior waited three years for the chance to expand her horizons into the midfield, and she proved critical to the No. 1 Vikings' transition game. Still an intimidating factor on defense, which remains her forte, Doherty contributed 45 goals and 12 assists to the Vikings' run to the Howard County, regional and Class 3A-2A state championships. Aggressive all over the field, Doherty won 31 draws and had a team-high 55 ground balls. On the defensive end, she continued to excel one-on-one or in the Vikings' complicated system of slides. Her containment skills and determination made it difficult to get by her.

Coach of the Year

Brooke Kuhl-McClelland

Mount Hebron

Few teams will ever experience the ups and downs that Kuhl-McClelland guided the No. 1 Vikings through this spring. The Vikings celebrated their 103rd straight victory on April 13. The next day, they faced emotions they had never felt after losing to West Genesee, N.Y., 14-6. After a huge buildup to the 103rd win, which tied Loch Raven's national record, the Vikings were devastated. Their coach helped them over the bump, urging them to use the loss as motivation. They went on to win their 11th straight state title and their 15th overall.
