An article on LeBron James' performance in the NBA playoffs that ran on Page 3C in the early edition Saturday contained a term that is derogatory.

When I wrote those words, I did not know the language could be construed as a racial epithet. I meant only to convey that James seemed a much more advanced player than those attempting to defend him. My colleagues on the sports desk quickly recognized my mistake and eliminated the reference in the final two editions of the paper.

I'm embarrassed by my ignorance of the offending term, and I sincerely apologize for using it.
