A stark beauty in Death Valley

June 03, 2007

The phrase "Death Valley" conjures up images of scorching hot deserts, but a visit to the California national park in the winter usually brings moderate weather and unlimited opportunities for exploration. Last January, as my family descended from Ubehebe Peak, my son and daughter gazed down on an alien landscape.
