Reading program includes visitors

Readers of all ages can sign up for Carroll County Public Library's summer reading programs that started Friday and continue to Aug. 11.

This year's theme, Reading Road Trip, is filled with activities, programs and prizes. Visitors will include Uncle Pete, Magician Roger Lindsay, Poe the Ravens Mascot, Tacky the Penguin and Clifford the Big Red Dog.

Activities include Harry Potter book release parties, the Three Billy Goats Reading Road Trip Puppet Show, author visits, and Jamming Jungle with guests from Theatre on the Hill.

Education board seeks comments

A proposed policy on school-related fundraising recently was presented to the Board of Education. It provides guidance for school-related organizations to have fundraisers at schools and for the sale and display of banner advertisements on school property.

The board is seeking community comments on the proposed policy, available online at carrollk12.org.

Comments and suggestions may be sent to feedback@k12.carr.org. The policy will be returned to the board July 11.

Art, language classes available

Carroll Community College is offering summer enrichment classes for a range of interests.

Art classes include beginning, continuing and studio art Drawing and Painting; Figure Drawing; Portrait Drawing; Landscape Painting; and Watercolor Painting in the Heirloom Garden.

Language classes are Basic I and II Italian, Basic I, II and III Spanish, and Spanish Intermediate Conversation.

Beaded jewelry classes include Beaded Bracelets, Spiral Beaded Bracelets, and Swarovski Crystal Tennis Bracelet.

Classes begin next month.

Host families needed for students

The ASSE International Student Exchange Program is seeking host families for boys and girls ages 15 to 18 from a variety of countries.

Selected students have good English, are fully insured, have their own spending money, and expect to share in household responsibilities and family activities while staying with their host family.

Students may stay a semester or entire school year.
