Luge tryouts

The lowdown -- Head to Frederick this weekend and check out the Verizon-USA Luge Slider Search. The USA Luge national team is searching for athletes ages 11 to 14 who show promise in the sport. No experience is necessary, as coaches and athletes will teach the basics of riding a luge sled. The children who show the most potential will be considered for the 2008-09 USA Luge Development Team.

If you go -- The search is 9 a.m.-noon and 2 p.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday on East Patrick Street Extended on the park and ride lot in Frederick. Registration is $15, and registrants should arrive 15 minutes before the start of each clinic. Call 800-USA- LUGE or go to usaluge.org.

Gone fishing

The lowdown -- Celebrate National Fishing and Boating Week, which begins Saturday. With more than 140 locations throughout Maryland at which to participate in both sports, it should not be hard to get involved.

British Car Day

The lowdown -- Check out the Original British Car Day at Lilypons Water Gardens on Sunday. Hosted by the Chesapeake Chapter of the New England MG "T" Register, the event will feature antique, classic and new British cars and motorcycles, vendors and food.

If you go -- British Car Day is 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at Lilypons Water Gardens, 6800 Lily Pons Road in Adamstown. Spectator car admission is $5, and show-car registration is $25 at the gate. Go to lilypons.com or chesapeakechaptermgt club.com.
