Funeral services for the city correctional officer who was found fatally shot outside his Northeast Baltimore home are scheduled for this week, his wife said.

Marguerite Brooks, 45, said in a brief interview that the family was shocked by the shooting. Lt. Perry Van Brooks, a 23-year corrections veteran who worked at Baltimore's Central Booking and Intake Center, was found shot to death in his car, in the alley behind his house in the 1900 block of Hillenwood Road.

Police said he had been shot in the left forearm and head.

Brooks said a viewing was scheduled from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Vaughn Greene funeral home in the 8700 block of Liberty Road in Randallstown.

Brooks said that a wake is scheduled for Thursday at 10 a.m., with a funeral service to follow, at the same location.
