Snook named top principal

The Maryland Association of Student Councils has named Carl Snook, principal at North Carroll Middle School, the Wayne Perry Principal of the Year.

This award recognizes middle and high school principals who enable and empower student leaders and organizations while maintaining high standards for the entire school program.

Snook provides encouragement and support for ideas and promotes Student Government Association activities, such as fundraisers for the swim club and three Fire Departments that serve the school community.

3 schools recognized for fine arts

Liberty, Westminster and Winters Mill High schools have received the 2006-2007 Maryland State School of Excellence Award for Excellence in the Fine Arts.

The award is part of the Creative Ticket School of Excellence Award for the Kennedy Center Alliance for Arts Education Network.

Athletic director gets state honor

South Carroll High School's athletic director, Jim Horn, has been named Athletic Director of the Year for Maryland, the first from Carroll County to receive this award in the 30 years it has been presented.

The Maryland State Athletic Directors Association selects 14 district Athletic Directors of the Year annually and chooses one from that group. Horn received the district award in 2005.

Horn has taught social studies in Carroll County for 25 years and has been athletic director for the past seven years.
