Mildred Dorothy "Tootie" Gregory, a retired school secretary, died of cancer May 18 at Gilchrist Center for Hospice Care. The Timonium resident was 82.

Born Mildred Dorothy Taylor in Hampden, and raised on Buena Vista Avenue, she was a 1942 graduate of Western High School.

Mrs. Gregory worked at Pittsburgh Plate Glass Co., Bethlehem Fairfield shipyard and United Insurance Co., where she was an office manager.

After raising her son, Mrs. Gregory became secretary at Stoneleigh Elementary School and later transferred to Randallstown Elementary School. She retired in 1983.

She enjoyed making craft items, many of which she donated to the annual bazaar at St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church in Hampden. She also traveled and co-operated a gift and craft shop, Granny's Trunk, in Sparks.

Services were private.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Claude W. Gregory Jr., a retired civil engineer; a son, Eric W. Gregory of Lorton, Va.; two grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
