Matthew John Payne, a service estimator at a motorcycle dealership, died Friday in an automobile accident near his Woodstock home. He was 28.

Born in Nashua, N.H., and raised in Westminster, he was a 1997 graduate of Westminster High School and earned an associate of arts degree from Catonsville Community College, where he trained in auto mechanics. He was a Boy Scout with Troop 321 in Westminster for six years and achieved the Order of the Arrow.

He was a mechanic for Jeff Barnes Chevrolet, Heritage Chevrolet and Schaefer and Strohminger Chevrolet before moving to C&L Cycles in Eldersburg and Ellicott City Motor Sports. He later became a service estimator at Harley-Davidson of Maryland in Elkridge.

He enjoyed riding motorcycles, dirt bikes and bicycles, skiing, camping, and blues and bluegrass music.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home, 6028 Sykesville Road in Eldersburg.

Survivors include his parents, Herbert and Jo Ann M. Buckley Payne of Westminster; a sister, Rebeccah Ostroski of Las Vegas; and his maternal grandparents, William and Edith Buckley of New Windsor.
