Secondhand smoke hazards to be focus

The Women of Worship Ministry of Bridgeway Community Church, in collaboration with Millennium Community Outreach Institute, a national consulting group focused on the concerns of minorities, will sponsor Not in Mama's Kitchen, a presentation on the hazards of secondhand smoke and the influence that mothers can have in creating a smoke-free environment in homes and places of worship.

Brenda Bell Caffee, founder of the Not in Mama's Kitchen campaign, will speak. The event, which includes a free lunch, will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 9 at the church, 9189 Red Branch Road, Columbia.

Basket bingo set at Clarksville parish

Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court St. Louis No. 2579, will hold a Vera Bradley basket bingo at 7 p.m. June 1 in the new St. Louis Church social hall, 12500 Clarksville Pike, Clarksville. Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance; $25 at the door. Additional sets of three cards will be available for $5. Three special games are planned, and snacks will be available to purchase. Participants must be at least 16.

St. Louis Church will present "Concert Artists of Baltimore," a performance of orchestral and choral music under the direction of Edward Polochick, at 4 p.m. June 3 at the church.

Nightingales set to perform June 2

A choral performance by the Nightingales - "Flights of Faith & Fantasy 2007" - will be held at 4 p.m. June 2 at Emory United Methodist Church, Church Road and Emory Street, Ellicott City. Guests include Michael Britt, theater organist, and Marlee Lindon, flute soloist.

`Women's Event' at Temple Isaiah

The third "Women's Event," sponsored by the Jewish Federation of Howard County, will be held at 6 p.m. June 5 at Temple Isaiah in Fulton.

The event, which includes dinner, honors outstanding women in the Howard County Jewish community. Philanthropist Jennifer L. Meyerhoff and Baltimore City judge and law professor Chaya D. Friedman are to present a dialogue, "Friends at First Sight."

Tickets are $65 for the dinner. Reservations are requested by Wednesday. Sponsorships are available.

Rock, blues concert at interfaith center

Christ United Methodist Church at Owen Brown Interfaith Center, 7246 Cradlerock Way, Columbia, will sponsor an evening of rock and blues by the Kim Swanson Trio at 7 p.m. June 1.

Tickets, which will be available at the door until 7 p.m., are $15. Children to age 12 will be admitted free. Proceeds will help support the church's ministries.

Christian aerobics at two churches

Body & Soul Christian Aerobics is offering eight-week sessions of cardio and strength training to contemporary Christian music.

Church seeks DVDs, CDs, book donations

Shepherd of the Glen Lutheran Church 14551 Burntwoods Road, Glenwood, is collecting books, videos, compact discs, digital video discs and records for its 11th Media Sale.

Donated items can be left in or around the blue box at the parking lot-side entrance to the church, if rain is not expected. Encyclopedias and copies of the Reader's Digest or National Geographic are not accepted.
