An everlasting love blooms in Minnesota

In typical macho Westerns, a stranger comes into town, uses fists and guns to clean it up, and then leaves, sometimes with an adoring widow on his arm, sometimes with the bittersweet knowledge that he's improved the life of a good woman and her son.

In the feminist Midwestern Sweet Land, a stranger comes into town, uses her moral and physical beauty and a firm hand with a sickle during harvest time to open the minds and improve the lot of struggling farmers (including her husband-to-be), and then stays there. Forever.

Sweet Land (Libero) Starring Elizabeth Reaser, Tim Guinee, Alan Cumming, John Heard, Alex Kingston, Ned Beatty, Lois Smith. Directed by Ali Selim. Rated PG. Time 110 minutes.
