Headbanger heaven

The lowdown -- Headbang your heart out this weekend when Sonar hosts Maryland Deathfest. The two-day festival will present 28 death-metal and grindcore bands, including Brutal Truth, Zyclon, Extreme Noise Terror and Vomitory.

Three singer-songwriters

The lowdown -- Catch Baltimore-based musicians Tim Kaye, Matt Pless and Chris Laun at the Lo-Fi Social Club tonight. Each plays his own take on the singer-songwriter genre.

For Expandis

The lowdown -- Rock out for a great cause Sunday at the Landis Expandis Benefit. A member of the All Mighty Senators, Expandis was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease and is on dialysis. With no income at the moment and mounting medical bills, he is counting on friends and fans for support. Hosted by the 8x10, the event will feature performances by Jimmie's Chicken Shack, Lake Trout, Kelly Bell Band and Dingleberry Dynasty. All proceeds will benefit Expandis.
