City of Annapolis plans symposium

The city of Annapolis will hold its second annual Small and Minority Business Enterprise Symposium from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Governor Calvert House, 58 State Circle, Annapolis.

Lt. Gov. Anthony G. Brown will be the keynote speaker.

Reservations are required.

The cost is $25, payable by check to SMBE-City of Annapolis and mailed to 160 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis, 21401.

Workshop to focus on business plans

SCORE Chapter 390 will hold a workshop, "Let's Prepare a Business Plan," from 8:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Big Vanilla Athletic Club's community meeting room, 1209 Ritchie Highway, Arnold.

The cost is $60 and includes lunch. Registration is required.

BankAnnapolis names loan officer

BankAnnapolis has appointed Betsy Hein as mortgage loan officer.

Hein, a resident of Severna Park, has 16 years of experience in the mortgage industry. She worked previously at Ryland Mortgage Co. in Columbia.

Architectural firm moves to Annapolis

The Lukmire Partnership, an architectural firm, has relocated from Lanham to Annapolis.

The new office is at 130 Admiral Cochrane Drive.

Chamber to hold trade show June 6

The Baltimore-Washington Corridor Chamber of Commerce and the Network Referral Group will hold the "Star Spangled Business to Business" trade show from 9:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 6 in the Carriage Room at Laurel Park racetrack, Route 198 in Laurel.

A power networking breakfast will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. in the Terrace Dining Room.

Trade show booths must be purchased by Thursday.

Severn Bancorp gets high ranking

Severn Bancorp Inc. has been ranked No. 2 in research firm SNL Financial LC's list of the nation's 100 largest thrifts, based on 2006 information.

Severna Bancorp also received a perfect score of 300 from IDC Financial Publishing.

Loans available for improvements

Anne Arundel Economic Development Corp. has started a new investment loan program to spur economic activity, investment and improvement in the county's 16 designated revitalization districts and in the revitalization areas of Annapolis.

The loan program offers zero-interest loans up to $35,000 for improvement to the exterior and interior of a business.

The program is funded through a county appropriation approved by the County Council.

Golf tournament set for June 11

Opportunity Builders Inc. will hold its fourth annual Links Challenge Golf Tournament at 9 a.m. June 11 at Compass Pointe Golf Course, 9010 Fort Smallwood Road, Pasadena.

The continental breakfast begins at 8 a.m.

Serene Ponds and Landscapes of Bowie won six awards at the 2007 Washington Home & Garden Show.

The awards include "Best In Show" for a garden exhibit, "Best Outdoor Lighting," "Best Garden for Outdoor Lighting," "Best Waterfall," "Best Water Feature" and the "Sweepstakes Award."
