Mekelburg named Connections director

Meg G. Mekelburg of Columbia has been named director of Howard County Connections, an initiative of the Horizon Foundation. She will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Connections Center and staff.

Connections seeks to engage people, institutions and communities to provide youth with "developmental assets" -- experiences and relationships that will support them in avoiding high-risk behavior and pursuing a healthy life.

Mekelburg previously served as a member of the Connections staff. She is co-founder of Individual Differences in Learning, a nonprofit organizations that supports children with learning disabilities and ADHD.

The Horizon Foundation, a $91 million philanthropy, addresses community health issues in Howard County through grants and partnerships with public and private institutions.

Winters appointed to HC DrugFree board

Annie L. Geiermann, senior vice president and director of the business banking group of Citizens National Bank, has announced that Tammy Winters, vice president of the business banking group has been appointed to the board of directors of HC Drug Free.

Winters will serve a three-year term on the board of HC DrugFree, beginning July 1.

Founded in 1890, Citizens National Bank is a locally managed $1.4 billion community bank with 23 offices in the Baltimore-Washington Corridor. It is an affiliate of PNC Financial, a holding company.
