If mac and cheese had a televised equivalent, it would be The Price Is Right. Familiar, warm, carb-heavy. Cheesy, goes down easy. Nothing disagreeable.

"It's comfort food," says Marc Green, founder and administrator of fan site And this televised comfort food, which tests participants on their familiarity with the prices of fruit hammocks and baker's racks, has become the longest continuously running game show in the United States. It has inspired song tributes, video re-creations, TV parodies, fan sites, clever T-shirts and not-altogether-rational outpourings of emotion.

On TV The Price Is Right Million Dollar Spectacular airs at 8 tonight on WJZ (Channel 13). Bob Barker: A Celebration of 50 Years of Television airs at 8 p.m. tomorrow, also on WJZ.
