Juniors Julie Gardner and Hayley Rausch scored three goals each and another junior, Allison Behringer, added a pair as No. 3 Severna Park dealt fierce rival and No. 7 Broadneck a third straight defeat this season, this time in the Class 4A-3A East region semifinals, 9-5.

Last Tuesday, Severna Park, the defending regional champion and state runner-up to No. 9 Dulaney in 2006, defeated Broadneck, 12-8, for the Anne Arundel County title.

The visiting Bruins (13-3) took a 2-0 lead on goals by Chelsea Thompson and Logan Bilderback, but the Falcons (17-0) answered with goals from Kathleen Barranco and Behringer to tie it.

Puddy Johnson regained the lead for Broadneck with two goals, but the first of three goals by Rausch cut Severna Park's deficit to 4-3 at the half.

"It's very tough to beat somebody three times, especially Broadneck," said Gardner, who scored her goals in the second half after Rausch tied the score at 4.

"They're our rival every year. I don't think Severna Park and Broadneck have had three consecutive wins [over the other] in one season until we just did it. So it's definitely a big win"

Broadneck got within 8-5 with 7:14 left but would get no closer. Rausch closed out the scoring with 4:42 remaining.

No. 1 Mount Hebron 26, River Hill 3 -- Jacqueline Giles scored five goals, Ashley Bruns added four and Jackie Doherty and Jessica Giles each had hat tricks as the Vikings (16-1) defeated the visiting Hawks in the 3A/2A South semifinals. Mount Hebron will play Glenelg in the final tomorrow at 7 p.m.

No. 5 Century 15, Liberty 4 -- Sophomore Katie Schwarzmann scored six goals and added one assist to help the Knights (14-2) over the visiting Lions (12-4) in the 2A-1A West semifinals. Century will play at Poolesville tomorrow night at 7 for the regional title.

C. Milton Wright 21, North County 2 -- Brooke Prater led the team with seven points, and Mallory Vogel and Kelly Scheler both had hat tricks as the host Mustangs (8-8) defeated the Knights (3-11) in the Class 4A/3A South semifinals. C.M. Wright will play Dulaney in the regional final tomorrow.

Northeast 9, Kent Island 8 -- A last-second save by goalie Ray Hesse sent the 3A/2A East semifinal into overtime, where Corbin Voelker scored the winning goal for the Eagles with 1:38 remaining. Voelker scored six goals in total for visiting Northeast (9-5).
