Blue Jays update

The Blue Jays were beaten, 2-1, by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays yesterday, but they took two of three games in the series, their first series victory of three games or more since they won two of three against the Kansas City Royals from April 9 to 11. Toronto lost ace Roy Halladay, who was scheduled to pitch tomorrow, for four to six weeks to appendicitis. Closer B.J. Ryan is out for the season after ligament-transplant surgery last week. Catcher Gregg Zaun, outfielder Reed Johnson and pitchers Gustavo Chacin, Victor Zambrano and Brandon League are also on the disabled list. Third baseman Troy Glaus (sore heel) has missed the past two games, but his condition is improving. Frank Thomas is just eight home runs shy of 500 for his career. The Orioles swept the Blue Jays at Camden Yards from April 20 to 22 but won just three of 10 games at the Rogers Centre last year.
