Services set for father, son killed in crash

May 14, 2007

Funeral services will be held Wednesday for a Millington father and son who died last week in a seven-vehicle collision on the Bay Bridge.

Randall R. Orff, 47, and Jonathan R. Orff, 19, were among the three people killed in the Thursday afternoon accident, one of the worst in the history of the bridge.

The father, known as Randy, was a native of Maine. He had worked as a foreman for Brawner Contracting for about five years. As a member of the Nur Shrine Temple of Wilmington, Del., he would dress up as a clown for hospital visits and various events with children.

Jonathan Orff, a 2006 graduate of Queen Anne's County High School, had started working for Brawner as a laborer about a month ago.

Both were firefighters with the Crumpton Volunteer Fire Company. Their funeral, with firefighter honors, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Crumpton Volunteer Fire Hall. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m., and burial will follow at Crumpton Cemetery.

They are survived by wife and mother Missy Collins Orff; son and brother Brandon Orff; Randall Orff's parents, Robert and Sheila Orff of Skowhegan, Maine; and his two brothers, Bruce Orff of Millington and Brian Orff of Skowhegan; Jonathan Orff's maternal grandmother, Joan Simpler, and great-grandmother, Mary Pearson, both of Millington; and his girlfriend, Morgan Price.
