August

Aug. 13-15 -- New teacher orientation.

Aug. 15 -- Fall sports begin.

Aug. 16-17 -- Reading program training for new teachers.

Aug. 20, 22 and 23 -- Orientation and training for teachers (to include the equivalent of 1 1/2 days as teacher workdays).

Aug. 21 -- Professional development day.

Aug. 24 -- Schools closed for teachers.

Aug. 27 -- Schools open for elementary and grades six and nine only.

Aug. 28 -- Schools open for all students.

Aug. 27-29 -- Schools closed for prekindergarten, kindergarten, and ECI students - parent conferences for those students.

Aug. 30 -- Staggered entrance begins for prekindergarten and kindergarten.

Aug. 31 -- Schools closed for all students and teachers.

September

Sept. 3 -- Labor Day - all schools and central offices closed.

Sept. 4-5 -- Staggered entrance for prekindergarten and kindergarten.

Sept. 13 -- Rosh Hashana - all schools and central offices closed.

Sept. 28 -- Interims to be sent home.

October

Oct. 19 -- Schools closed for students. MSTA convention. Professional development day.

November

Nov. 1 -- End of first marking period (45 days). Two-hour early dismissal for all students. Schools closed for p.m. prekindergarten and ECI.

Nov. 2 -- Beginning of second period.

Nov. 15 -- Winter sports begin.

Nov. 16 -- Report card distribution for all students.

Nov. 19-20 -- Schools closed for students. Parent/teacher conferences for elementary and middle schools. In-service day and workday for high school teachers.

Nov. 21- 23 -- Thanksgiving Holiday - all schools and central offices closed.

December

Dec. 7 -- Interims to be sent home by this date.

Dec. 24-Jan. 1 -- Christmas/Winter Holiday. All schools closed for students, teachers and school-based Unit IV employees. School offices and central offices closed Dec. 24, 25, 31 and Jan. 1.

January

Jan. 2 -- Schools open for teachers and students.

Jan. 7-11 -- High School Assessment administration (HSA).

Jan. 16 -- Semester examinations for Centers of Applied Technology.

Jan. 17, 18, 22 and 23 -- High school semester examinations. Two-hour early dismissal for all students, teacher workdays. Schools closed for p.m. prekindergarten and ECI students. Modified extracurricular hours.

Jan. 21 -- Martin Luther King Jr. Day - all schools and central offices closed.

Jan. 23 -- End of second marking period (46 days).

Jan. 24-25 -- Schools closed for students. In-service/workday for elementary and middle school teachers. Workday for high school teachers.

Jan. 28 -- Beginning of third marking period.

February

Feb. 8 -- Report card distribution for all students.

Feb. 18 -- Presidents Day - all schools and central offices closed.

Feb. 29 -- Interims to be sent home by this date.

March

March 1 -- Spring sports begin.

March 4 -- Presidential primary election - all schools and central offices closed.

March 20-24 -- Easter/Spring Holiday. All schools and central offices closed.

April

April 1-10 -- Maryland School Assessment administration (MSA).

April 1-4 -- Registration for prekindergarten and kindergarten begins

April 4 -- End of third marking period (45 days). Two-hour early dismissal for all students. Schools closed for p.m. prekindergarten and ECI.

April 7 -- Beginning of fourth marking period.

April 23-May 13 -- MSA Science test administration, grades five and eight only.

April 23 -- Report card distribution for all students.

May

May 9 -- Interims to be sent home by this date.

May 19-22 -- High School Assessment administration (HSA).

May 22-23 -- Schools closed for prekindergarten, kindergarten, and ECI. Spring conferences for parents of those students.

May 26 -- Memorial Day - all schools and central offices closed.

June

June 3 -- Last day for graduating seniors.

June 6 -- Semester examinations for Centers of Applied Technology.

June 9-12 -- High school examinations; textbook collection. Two-hour early dismissal for all students, teacher workdays. Schools closed for all half-day prekindergarten and ECI classes.

June 12 -- End of fourth marking period (48 days). Last day for students.

June 16 -- Last day for teachers.
