Market Day blooms at Cylburn

The typically quiet grounds of Cylburn Arboretum will be abuzz today as the nature preserve hosts its annual Market Day. This year's event will incorporate the arboretum's other spring affair, Perennial and Herb Day, giving flora lovers more options for picking up items for their gardens - and last-minute shoppers a chance, perhaps, to find a gift for Mom.

The event, which benefits the arboretum, features nursery booths brimming with flowers, plants and vegetables. If gardening isn't your hobby, check out the nearly 20 artisans selling handmade goods. Crafts will include pottery, hand-woven baskets, natural soaps, handmade greeting cards and tie-dye wares. Other attractions include a used-book sale and a flea market.

Kids will have plenty of activities to keep them entertained, including two storybook readings and hands-on craft-making. They'll also find a Nature Museum to explore. Also, the Waldorf School will perform a traditional may- pole dance.

Market Day runs from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. today at Cylburn Arboretum, 4915 Greenspring Ave. Parking is $4. Call 410-367-2217 or go to cyl
