Tai Sophia Institute holding open house

Tai Sophia Institute, 7750 Montpelier Road, North Laurel, will hold an open house, beginning at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow, for visitors to meet the school's faculty, students and graduates and hear about the institute's academic programs.

Founded in 1975 as a healing arts clinic, the institute offers three graduate programs in wellness based education: acupuncture, herbal medicine and applied healing arts.

The open house will include tours; panels of students, faculty and alumni will discuss the programs.

Movement classes for members of the community begin this week and next.

A class in t'ai chi chih, a series of traditional strengthening and balancing movements, will be offered from 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Mondays, starting next week. The cost is $80 for a seven-week session.

Feldenkrais: Awareness Through Movement runs from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., beginning Tuesday. The class teaches techniques to increase grace and efficiency of movement, increase flexibility and coordination and heal old injuries. The cost is $85.

Medical qi gong, teaching the Taoist health and longevity exercise system, runs from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., beginning Wednesday.

Yoga and meditation for new students and those seeking to deepen their practice, will be offered from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, starting next week.
