Devil Rays update

The Devil Rays are 5-5 over their past 10 games and enter the series a half game ahead of the Orioles in third place in the American League East. They are 10-7 this season against the 2006 AL division winners (Minnesota, Oakland and New York) and 4-10 against everyone else. Twenty-four of their 31 games this season have been decided by three runs or fewer, and they are a league-best 6-2 in one-run games. Closer Al Reyes is 10-for-10 in save opportunities. Infielder B.J. Upton leads the AL with a .371 batting average but has a league-high 37 strikeouts. As a team, Tampa Bay has 38 home runs, most in the AL. Fossum and Seo have given up 28 and 27 earned runs, respectively, the second- and third-highest totals among AL pitchers entering yesterday. The Orioles beat the Devil Rays in two of three games in mid-April. Tampa Bay has lost four straight series to the Orioles and eight of their past 10 meetings.
