Marlene A. Seivers, a retired elementary school teacher, died April 28 at Genesis HealthCare Long Green Nursing Center in North Baltimore. She was 74.

Marlene Alfreida Tilghman was born in Baltimore and raised on Carey Street and in Sparrows Point.

She was a 1949 graduate of Sollers Point High School and attended Coppin State College and what is now Bowie State University.

Mrs. Seivers, who earned a teaching certificate, was a substitute teacher and later taught at public elementary schools in Baltimore city and county for 16 years. She retired in 1972.

The longtime Northeast Baltimore resident had been a member of St. Matthew's United Methodist Church in Turners Station from 1947 to 1959, and for the next 26 years was an active member and Sunday school superintendent of Union Baptist Church of Sparrows Point. Since 1985, she had been a member of Second Baptist Church in Annapolis.

Mrs. Seivers enjoyed reading and the theater.

Her husband of 45 years, Frank Elbert Seivers, a Bethlehem Steel Corp. tractor driver, died in 1995.

Services were held May 5 at Union Baptist Church. .

Surviving are a daughter, H. Maureen "Reenie" Godsey of Baltimore; a sister, Sandra A. Faust of Glen Burnie; four grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. Her son, Frank Bernard "Bernie" Seivers, died in 1988.
