Baltimore's Harborplace recently welcomed Urban Outfitters, adding a touch of funk to the Light Street Pavilion. The two-level store offers an assortment of merchandise that gives shoppers a chance to step outside the boundaries of their normal, everyday style.

"We're very eclectic," said Kathleen Carney, the store's district manager. "We have a lot of clothing, accessories and home goods that let people express their personalities. We also have very artistic and creative people working for us to engage customers to come and have fun."

From flower-child dresses and footless tights to baby-doll slogan tees and skinny jeans, the selection of women's apparel spans trends from the 1970s to current must-haves.

The footwear includes Nike high-tops in modern metallic hues to leopard-print flats and classic Vans. The tables of clothing are stacked with bowls of costumelike jewelry, long necklaces, sunglasses and chunky bracelets to jazz up the understated outfits.

The men's apparel infuses rock 'n' roll chic with starving artist. A wall of vintage-inspired rock T-shirts offers casual wear to be paired with sport jackets and trucker hats.

But Urban Outfitters doesn't just modernize your wardrobe. The selection of home decor includes pillows stacked to the ceiling in bright colors and patterns reminiscent of art-deco styles. There is a huge selection of books, including How to Walk in High Heels and D.I.Y. Design It Yourself, that make perfect coffee-table reads. Martini glasses and alternative adult board games are also available to liven up any soiree.
