Three men have been charged with murder in the fatal stabbing more than a year ago of an inmate at the Baltimore City Detention Center, authorities said.

The victim, Anthony E. Conaway, 41, of the 4000 block of Ayrdale Ave., was being held without bail on charges of burglary, theft and violation of probation when he was attacked by three men and stabbed on March 13, 2006.

He died two days later at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Members of the Regional Warrant Apprehension Task Force arrested two men on a charge of first-degree murder in connection with Conaway's death, and served papers on a third man in jail on federal charges.

Arrested were Tivon Wright, 28, of the 3600 block of Lyndale Ave., and Sean Taylor, 33, of the 1700 block of Ramsey St., both of whom had won release from the detention center shortly after the killing.

The third suspect, Matthew Troy Evans, 38, of the 5300 block of Hamilton Ave., had remained in custody since Conaway's death, police said.
