Longfellow school to hold spring fair

Longfellow Elementary School will hold its Spring Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow, at the school, 5470 Hesperus Drive, Columbia.

Silent auctions and raffles, a 55-foot obstacle course and Velcro wall, carnival games, Dance Dance Revolution, demonstrations, crafts, food and opportunities to be photographed with the Baltimore Ravens mascot, as well as with Sponge Bob and Mickey Mouse look-alikes.

Hammond school to hold garage sale

Hammond Elementary School will hold its annual Spring Garage Sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow at the school, 8110 Aladdin Drive, North Laurel.

The rain date is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday.

More than 100 vendors will sell gently used items such as children's clothes and household goods. Proceeds will benefit the school's PTA and will be used to fund student activities.

Early residents of Columbia sought

Families who moved to Columbia before Dec. 31, 1968, and their adult children are being sought to participate in a 40-year reunion of Columbia Pioneers being planned for June 22.

Event to honor older Americans

County Executive Ken Ulman and the Department of Citizen Services' Office on Aging will sponsor an Older Americans' Day Celebration at 10:30 a.m. May 15 at Ten Oaks Ballroom in Clarksville.

Entertainment will be provided by the Dayton Oaks Elementary School String Ensemble and Chorus. Luncheon will be served at noon.

Tickets are $9. Walk-in and phone reservations will be taken at the Bain Center between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. today and Monday.

Women-only event set for Sunday

Women are invited to the first "Sip, Savor and Shop," a women-only event to be held 1 p.m. Sunday at Belmont Conference Center in Elkridge.

Guests can enjoy a gourmet four-course luncheon and wine-tasting, and an opportunity to shop for jewelry, stationery and other items. Laurie Forster will discuss wine and the perfect wine for Mother's Day.

There is a fee.

Hockey travel team tryouts being held

The Howard Huskies ice hockey organization is holding travel team tryouts for the 2007-2008 season through Sunday at Columbia Ice Rink.

Recreational and travel team players at the mite, squirt, peewee, midget U16 and midget U18 levels are encouraged to try out for the competitive teams.
