DiBeneditto leads Patriots in upset

Angela DiBeneditto scored the winning run and pitched a shutout as visiting John Carroll upset top-ranked Seton Keough, 1-0, yesterday in softball.

The Gators fell to 10-2.

With two outs in the first inning, DiBeneditto singled before Nicole Lowenstein doubled to center to drive in the winning run for the No. 14 Patriots (7-5).

DiBeneditto, a right-hander, pitched seven innings, giving up two hits and striking out eight for the win.

Boys lacrosse

Hereford 11, Franklin 8 -- The Bulls received balanced scoring from Perry Menzies (three goals, one assist), Sam Mowell (one, three), Colin Gload (one, three), Dixon Green (two goals) and Billy Stafford (two goals) in their fifth straight win, 11-8, at the defending Baltimore County champion and East Division rival Indians. Hereford (9-1 overall, 5-0 league) overcame a 6-4 halftime deficit to clinch a berth in Tuesday's county title game against Dulaney.
