Aleene M. Euler, a retired registered nurse and former longtime Glen Burnie resident, died of renal failure April 24 at Harmony Hall, a Columbia assisted-living facility. She was 94.

The former Aleene Mercuri was born and raised in Keyser, W.Va., the daughter of Italian immigrant parents.

She was a 1934 graduate of the old St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing and began her nursing career in the hospital, then on Caroline Street. She was head nurse at Union Memorial Hospital at the time of her 1940 marriage to Harry Bartels Euler Jr., a warehouse manager.

After his death in 1953, she joined the medical staff at Westinghouse Electric Corp., now Northrop Grumman in Linthicum, as an industrial nurse and worked there until 1978, when she retired.

"She enjoyed gardening, managing her investments and following politics," said a son, Anthony J. Euler of Ellicott City.

A funeral Mass was offered Saturday at the Roman Catholic Church of the Resurrection in Ellicott City.

Also surviving are two other sons, Timothy C. Euler of Pasadena and Neal B. Euler of Hillsboro, Ore.; a daughter, Mary E. Toth of Baltimore; a sister, Emelia Mercuri Moss of Tulsa, Okla.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
