Bullis wins NEMA event

Bullis of Potomac won the team title in the New England/Mid-Atlantic Invitational tennis tournament held yesterday and Saturday at McDonogh.

Area teams included McDonogh, which came in third; St. Paul's, which finished eighth; and Gilman, which ended up 12th in the field of 15.

The annual NEMA tournament, which began in 1997, is comprised of boys teams primarily from the East Coast.

In the No. 1 singles draw, Will Beck of Bullis edged Andy Peters of McDonogh in the third set tie-breaker, as he did in the recent Bullis-McDonogh match, 10-8.

At No. 2, McDonogh's Alexander Centenari defeated Andrew Zutz of Bullis, 6-4, 6-0.

At No. 3 singles, Hart Callahan of Episcopal Academy, Pa., defeated Bullis' Chris Seckman, 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (default/conduct).

Bullis swept both doubles draws to ensure its team title.
