Heap isn't stewing over a soup curse

First, the Madden curse. Now, a Chunky Soup curse?

With NFL players who grace the cover of EA Sports' most popular video game suffering season-ending injuries, a similar hex has been following players who serve as spokesmen for Campbell's canned product.

But Ravens tight end Todd Heap, who is one of eight NFL players appearing in ads for Chunky Soup later this year, isn't buying the notion of a Chunky Soup curse.

"I'm not really worried about that," said Heap, ignoring the injuries that have befallen previous Campbell's spokesmen such as quarterbacks Donovan McNabb, Ben Roethlisberger and Matt Hasselbeck, linebacker Brian Urlacher and defensive end Michael Strahan. "The Madden curse holds true more than this one. But it's a fun story, isn't it? People like to write about it."

Heap, who said he is digging the turkey pot pie soup, spoke Wednesday night from Toronto where he, LaDainian Tomlinson, Vince Young, Larry Johnson, Jonathan Vilma, DeMarcus Ware, Devin Hester and Hasselbeck and their respective mothers were filming commercials for the soup.

Heap estimated that he, his mother, Deena, and the other players and mothers had already done at least 200 takes. Heap professed admiration for his mother, who continued to work while also planning daughter Carli's wedding, which is just two weeks away.

One thing Deena Heap isn't worried about is a Chunky Soup curse.

"I thought it was just a bunch of hogwash," she said. "There's eight of them [NFL players as spokesmen]. Maybe there's luck in numbers."
