ASTROS -- Placed P Rick White on 15-day DL. Purchased contract of P Stephen Randolph from Triple-A Round Rock.

BRAVES -- P John Smoltz agrees to contract extension with option for 2009 that can become guaranteed and a club option for 2010.

ORIOLES -- Recalled C Ramon Hernandez from rehab assignment and activated him from 15-day DL. Designated C Alberto Castillo for assignment to Triple-A Norfolk.

WEST VIRGINIA -- Reached agreement with former men's basketball coach John Beilein that Beilein will pay university $1.5 million for leaving for Michigan with five years remaining on contract.
