Three die in two motorcycle crashes
Two people were killed yesterday evening in a motorcycle crash on Interstate 97 in Anne Arundel County, and another died several hours earlier in a motorcycle accident on the Baltimore Beltway in Baltimore County, authorities reported.
The latest fatalities occurred about 6 p.m. on I-97 near Benfield Road, when the driver lost control of a motorcycle at apparent high speed and was thrown from the vehicle, along with a passenger. Both landed on the highway shoulder and were pronounced dead at the scene, state police said.
Their names were withheld.
The other accident occurred about 1:40 p.m. on the outer loop of the Beltway near Golden Ring Mall in Rosedale.
Police said Kevin Michael Davis, 27, of the 200 block of Riverthorn Road in Middle River was riding a 2005 Suzuki GSXR-600 on the outer loop near Philadelphia Road and was popping a wheelie while accelerating when he lost control of the bike and began to fishtail from the fast lane onto the shoulder.
Police said Davis traveled across all three lanes, entered the shoulder and crashed into a guardrail. He was wearing a helmet, but sustained multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Baltimore: Police Shooting
Man injured during domestic dispute
A 24-year-old man was shot in the stomach by a Baltimore police officer responding to a domestic dispute in the Morrell Park neighborhood yesterday, authorities said.
About 6 a.m., police responded to a 911 call from a woman reporting that her son had hit her when she refused to give him $20 and that he was now fighting with the woman's boyfriend, said Officer Nicole Monroe, a police spokeswoman.
When the police tried to arrest the young man, he pushed Officer Ryan Shiflett off the front porch of the home in the 900 block of Wilmington Ave. - prompting Officer Charles Hinkel to draw his weapon, according to Monroe.
"The suspect refused to comply to verbal commands" and Hinkel, "fearing for his safety," shot him at least once in the abdomen, Monroe said.
The shooting victim underwent surgery at Maryland Shock Trauma Center and was expected to recover, Monroe said. Police did not release his name.
Hinkel, a 12-year veteran of the force, was placed on routine administrative leave while the shooting is investigated, Monroe said. In 2005, The Sun reported that Hinkel was recognized by Nation's Voice on Mental Illness for helping judges, attorneys and fellow officers better respond to people with mental illness.
