Hanging baskets to be sold Saturday in Harper's Choice

The Harper's Choice Community Association will sponsor a sale of hanging baskets from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Kahler Hall, 5440 Old Tucker Row, in Harper's Choice Village Center.

The baskets cost $13 each; two for $25.

Stress reduction program to be offered

The Central library, 10375 Little Patuxent Parkway, is presenting "The New You," a three-part program with Marilyn Thorpe, life coach with NexPhase Transitions.

A program on reducing stress is planned for 7 p.m. May 15, and a session on how not to procrastinate, for June 19. A session on managing time was held April 11.

Military

Decorated -- Army Staff Sgt. Rossell D. Willis, son of Roosevelt Willis Jr. of Clinton and Delores A. Cornelius for Fort Jackson, S.C., has been awarded the Army Commendation Medal signifying valor for participating in Operation Iraqi Freedom at a forward-deployed location in Iraq. The medal is awarded to those who have distinguished themselves by acts of heroism, achievement or service. Willis, a medical specialist, is a 1997 graduate of Wilde Lake High School.

Volunteers needed -- Slayton House will celebrate its 40th birthday this summer with a "Fabulous at 40" birthday party sponsored by Wilde Lake Community Association. The event, scheduled for June 16-17, will include entertainment, food, games, a tour of historic homes and a dedication. Volunteers are needed to help coordinate the event. Laughter workout -- Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks is sponsoring Another Way to See It, a laughter club for those ages 55 and older. The program includes laughter exercises. The club meets from 9 a.m. to 9:40 a.m. Mondays at the Bain Center, 5470 Ruth Keeton Way. 410-313-7279.`Long-term Living' -- The Howard County Department of Citizen Services' Office on Aging will present a program on "Long-term Living: Covering the Costs" at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Bain Center, 5470 Ruth Keeton Way. Discussion will focus on costs such as in-home care, assisted living, nursing home care and the coverage offered by long-term-care insurance. Mah jong -- Neighbors, ages 18 and older, are invited to drop in at Slayton House in Wilde Lake Village Center for Mah Jong at 10 a.m. Wednesdays. Admission is free. Participants are invited to take a game and attend with a friend. The program is sponsored by Wilde Lake Community Association. 410-730-3987.

Yoga class -- Yoga Center of Columbia will continue to offer classes at Slayton House on Wilde Lake Village Green. Senior yoga will be offered from noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursdays, through May 17. The classes are slow-paced and emphasize stress reduction. The cost is $15 to drop in. Columbia lien payers can request a 10 percent discount. The classes are appropriate for all levels of experience, but it is recommended that those beginning an exercise program consult a physician before starting. Registration is required. 410-730-3987.
