Medical secretary and volunteer enjoyed traveling

Dorothy P. Leach, a homemaker and volunteer, died April 13 of heart failure at Brighton Gardens in Chevy Chase. The former longtime Roland Park resident was 95.

The former Dorothy Powell was born in Baltimore and raised in Forest Park.

After graduating in 1929 from Forest Park High School, she worked as a medical secretary.

In 1935, she married Dr. C. Edward Leach, a Baltimore cardiologist, who died in 1992.

Mrs. Leach had lived on Kemper Road and Roland Avenue before moving to the retirement community in 1999.

She was a longtime volunteer at Greater Baltimore Medical Center, St. Joseph Medical Center and the University of Maryland Medical Center.

She also enjoyed traveling and spending summers boating at Sherwood Forest, where she and her husband maintained a second home.

Mrs. Leach was a communicant of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, 5703 N. Charles St., where a memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Surviving are a son, C. Edward Leach Jr. of Glastonbury, Conn.; a daughter, Patricia L. Fiske of Bethesda; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Another son, Walter R. Leach, died in the 1980s.
