No. 9 North Carolina tops Fairfield, 12-8

Midfielders Rob Driscoll and Ben Hunt each scored three goals to lift No. 9 North Carolina (8-4) past host Fairfield, 12-8, yesterday.

Greg Downing had three goals for the Stags (5-4).

No. 14 Syracuse 22, Rutgers 9 -- Eleven players scored at least one goal for the Orange (4-6) as it routed the visiting Scarlet Knights (4-5). Kenny Nims and Mike MacDonald scored four goals each for Syracuse. Mike Dugan led Rutgers with three points (two goals, one assist).

State women

Towson 12, William and Mary 7 -- Hillary Fratzke and Meggie McNamara each scored three goals to lead the host Tigers (5-7, 2-3 Colonial Athletic Association) over the Tribe (2-11, 0-4).

Mount St. Mary's 10, Long Island 9 -- Kathleen Rossetti scored the game-winner with 47 seconds left to lead the Mountaineers (7-6, 7-0 Northeast Conference) past the visiting Blackbirds (5-9, 3-4).

McDaniel 16, Bryn Mawr 3 -- Sarah Mintz scored five goals to lead the Green Terror (10-3, 4-3 Centennial Conference) over the host Owls (3-11, 0-7).
