Mental health talk set for Wednesday

The National Alliance on Mental Illness will hold a support meeting and offer educational materials on mental illness at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Bel Air United Methodist Church, 21 Linwood Ave. at Route 924.

The topic will be "Employees and Mental Illness" in Maryland.

Inspiration Walk planned Saturday

Special Olympics Maryland, Harford County will hold its third annual Inspiration Walk on Saturday at Harford Community College in Bel Air.

Registration will start at 8 a.m., with the walk starting at 9 a.m.

A minimum of $25 in pledges is requested from participants, who will receive a T-shirt and be entered in drawings.

County Executive David R. Craig will start the walk.

Proceeds support Harford County Special Olympics competitors.

Area hospitals honored for care

Harford Memorial Hospital and Upper Chesapeake Medical Center have earned the distinguished Quality Respiratory Care Recognition from the American Association for Respiratory Care.

"The award signifies for patients at our hospitals that they can expect quality respiratory care services in a safe environment from credentialed respiratory therapists," said Karen Goodison, director of respiratory care and neurosciences at Upper Chesapeake Health.

The respiratory therapy department of Upper Chesapeake Health also works closely with the American Lung Association on community education and raising awareness about lung disorders.

Arc fundraiser brings in $90,000

The Arc Northern Chesapeake Region's recent After d'Arc event raised more than $90,000 to help fund the organization's supported living services.

The event included a silent and live auction, music and dancing.

Program focuses on good nutrition

Upper Chesapeake Health offers an outpatient nutrition services program for people who want a healthier diet.

A registered dietitian will evaluate your current eating habits, assess your nutritional needs, and discuss a meal plan that will fit your lifestyle. A written order or referral from your physician is required.
