This month honors school library media

Carroll County public schools are celebrating Library Media Month this month.

Individual schools have planned activities for students and parents. Parents should contact their child's school for details on programs.

Town hall meeting set for Wednesday

School board president Gary Bauer and Superintendent Charles I. Ecker will hold a town hall meeting from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Oklahoma Road Middle School, 6300 Oklahoma Road, Eldersburg.

The public is welcome to voice concerns or ask questions on education topics and issues.

Nurses Association conference set

The School Nurses Association of Carroll County will hold its annual spring conference and dinner Thursday at the Non-Profit Center, 225 Clifton Blvd., Westminster.

A light dinner will begin at 5:30 p.m. The conference includes a lecture by Linda Auerback from Junction on drug awareness and current trends. Debbie Yohn, a registered nurse with Positive Alternatives to Dangerous and Destructive Decisions Inc., also will address the group.

Schools to close early Thursday

Carroll County Elementary Schools will close two hours and 45 minutes early, and there will be no half-day kindergarten Thursday.

All public schools will be closed Friday for students for a nonwork day for instructional assistants and parent conference day.

Mount Airy to hold school forum

Mount Airy, with Carroll County and Frederick County School Task Forces, will hold a school forum from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Mount Airy firehouse, 702 N. Main St.

The forum will focus on school construction planning and financing. It will include local, county and state officials discussing various aspects of school planning and funding and how it affects communities.

Tom Hylton, Pulitzer Prize winning journalist and author of Save Our Lands, Save Our Towns, will be the keynote speaker.

Montessori School sets open house

The Montessori School of Westminster will hold an open house for prospective students and their parents from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at 1055 Montessori Drive off Hughes Shop Road.

Families can tour the school and meet with staff to learn about the Montessori philosophy.

Alternative diploma program offered

Carroll County Public Schools offer the External Diploma Program, a self-paced alternative to the GED test.

Information sessions on the program will be held at 6:30 p.m. April 24 and 9 a.m. April 25 at Carroll Adult Learning Connection, 224 N. Center St., Westminster.
