The sophomore shortstop hit .650 with three doubles, three triples, six RBIs, 12 runs, five steals and three walks in five straight victories in six days last week to help the two-time defending Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference champion Cardinals improve to 13-0 overall and 5-0 against league competition. In Monday's 11-10 victory over then-No. 1 Archbishop Spalding, Blair went 4-for-5 with a triple, an RBI and three runs. In Tuesday's 10-6 win over St. Paul's, Blair was 4-for-5 with a double, a triple and two RBIs and also scored twice. In a 7-5 decision over St. John's of Washington on Thursday, Blair was 2-for-4 with a walk and three runs. Blair came through again in Saturday's doubleheader, going a combined 3-for-6 with three RBIs, two doubles, a triple, two walks and four runs in wins over Wantagh, N.Y., and Caravel Academy of Delaware. Archbishop Spalding, softball The senior pitcher, a first-team All-Metro selection last spring, posted three shutout wins, plus she recorded 14 strikeouts in a 1-0 loss to No. 1 Chesapeake-AA to go 3-1 last week for the No. 3 Cavaliers. Weigman opened the week with a 10-0 win over then-No. 2 and defending Class 4A state champ C. Milton Wright, allowing two hits while striking out eight in six innings. After striking out seven in a 5-0 win over Elizabeth Seton on Thursday, she gave up her only run in the tough 1-0 loss to Chesapeake in the opener of Saturday's Cavalier Classic before coming back to blank No. 11 Northeast, 4-0. For the week, she logged 26 innings, striking out 45 of the 95 batters she faced while yielding 10 hits and the one earned run. Weigman went into this week with a 6-2 mark and a 0.78 ERA. She has led the Cavaliers (7-2) to two straight Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference titles and is set to play at UMBC next year.
