Mr. Leon Howard Kaplan died peacefully on Friday, March 30 at Gilchrist Hospice. Hewas born on November 18, 1922 in New York. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents Hyman and Celia Kaplan and his brother, Robert Kaplan of Newton Highlands, MA. He is survived by three sons, Daniel and wife Kristen of Summerfield, North Carolina, Jonathan Rosenbloom of Saco, Maine, Harry Wolf and wife Cindy of Owings Mills, Maryland; and daughter Susan Elman and husband Bruce of Boynton Beach, Florida. Surviving brothers include Arthur and wife Sylvia of Portland, Oregon, Victor Jerome and wife Susan, of Boca Raton, Florida. He is also survived by his sister Libby and husband Winfred Hill of Evanston, Illinois, his sister-in law Barbara Kaplan of Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, and twelve grandchildren. Other survivors include the children of his longtime dear friend Betsy Pollock, including Dr. Steve Pollock and wife Pat and Michele Pollock, and their children and grandchildren. He also leaves many loving nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Leon was a navy veteran of World War II. He attended the University of Virginia and graduated from The Johns Hopkins University in 1950. Mr. Kaplan retired from the State Highway Administration in 1991 after many years of faithful service to the people of the State of Maryland. Mr. Kaplan was an avid reader and bridge player. He also enjoyed the sports of baseball and conversation. There will be no service. Contributions may be made to Hospice of Baltimore, Gilchrist Center, 6601 N.
