Schools announce Harford Teacher of the Year finalists

The county school system has announced the 10 finalists for the 2007-2008 Public School Teacher of the Year award.

They are: Sondra O. Cawthorne, English/reading, Alternative Education Center; Jeana C. Essery, science, Fallston Middle; Kathleen A. Garafola, second grade, North Bend Elementary; Brian J. Gunter, math, C. Milton Wright High; Sharalyn R. Heinly, math, and Angela S. Jones, music/chorus, North Harford Middle; Lisa L. Keller, fourth grade, Fountain Green Elementary; Rebekah R. McCord, English, Joppatowne High; Christine C. Roland, forensic science, Edgewood High; and Andrea F. Yeager, kindergarten, Abingdon Elementary.

The finalists - chosen by a panel of former teachers of the year, principals, parents, students and business leaders - will be honored at the 13th annual HCPS Teacher of the Year banquet at 6:30 p.m. April 26 at the Bayou Restaurant in Havre de Grace.

The 2007-2008 Harford County Public School Teacher of the Year will be announced by Board President Mark M. Wolkow and Superintendent Jacqueline C. Haas. The recipient will go on to compete for Maryland Teacher of the Year.

Lisa Philipose, 1999 graduate of Fallston High and soon to be a medical doctor, will be the featured speaker.
