Toastmasters chapter marking 10th year

Patuxent Toastmasters, a local chapter of the national organization that promotes communication and leadership skills, will celebrate its 10th anniversary from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Oliver's Carriage House (home of Kittamaqundi Community Church), 5410 Leaf Treader Way, Columbia.

The program is to include an interactive educational segment on public speaking, and refreshments.

Success in Style set to benefit from event

Women and Wine Events, a for-profit organizer of events for women, has named Success in Style of Howard County as a beneficiary for its next event.

The event, "Ooh la la French Wine & Food!" will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Tersiguel's French Country Restaurant, 8293 Main St., Ellicott City.

French wines and food will be served. An estate planning expert and financial adviser will answer questions on legacy planning, philanthropic giving, living wills, and strategies to ensure a comfortable retirement.

The cost is $65 for members of Women and Wine; $75 for nonmembers. Designated drivers pay $60.

`Gospel Extravaganza' to be held Saturday

A "Gospel Extravaganza" will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday to benefit the Vivian L. Reid Community Fund for the elderly. and help provide scholarships for needy students.

The concert, to be emceed by Patrick Ellis of WHUR Radio, will be held at Jim Rouse Theatre for the Performing Arts at Wilde Lake High School, 5460 Trumpeter Road, Columbia.

Performing will be the Gospel Revelations, TAGE ensemble's steel drums, The Voices of Inspiration, St. Bernardine's Church choir and Voices of Praise of New Fellowship Christian Community Church.

The cost is $20; $8 for children to age 12.

Sponsors include the Howard County Department of Citizen Services' Office on Aging and Tau Pi Foundation Inc. of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity's Tau Pi Chapter.

An environmental discussion tomorrow

The Howard County Citizens Association invites the community to join in a discussion about protecting and improving the environment at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Howard County Conservancy's Gudelsky Center on Mount Pleasant Farm, 10520 Old Frederick Road, Woodstock.
