AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The blueprints to toughen up the course at Augusta National Golf Club were bludgeoned in the five years since this treasured golfing ground was redesigned, a victim not only of the world's best players reaching the upper limits of their skills but also of Mother Nature softening the greens and fairways with constant rain.

Those blueprints, however waterlogged, were finally restored yesterday during the opening round of the 71st Masters.
