An Anne Arundel County man was rescued yesterday after he fell about 60 feet from an overlook at Patapsco Valley State Park in Howard County, said a spokesman for the Maryland Natural Resources Police.

Howard County's 911 dispatch center received a call about 5 p.m. reporting that a man had fallen from the scenic overlook in the Hollifield area of the park, said Sgt. Kenneth Turner, the spokesman.

Turner said county firefighters and police responded and found Paul Ryan Karopchinski, 23, of Pasadena lying near railroad tracks not far from the Patapsco River.

Turner said the man was placed aboard a state police helicopter and flown to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was treated for undetermined injuries.

Turner said a medical condition may have contributed to the man's fall.
