Brown gets new post at Howard hospital

Judy E. Brown has been appointed senior vice president for patient safety, performance improvement and risk management for Howard County General Hospital.

She will oversee infection control, patient safety initiatives, and compliance with national health care and safety standards. Brown has served at the hospital for more than 20 years, the last 10 as senior vice president of patient care services.

Deborah Trautman has been appointed interim vice president of patient care services while a national search is being conducted to fill Brown's previous position.

She is taking a leave from her position as director of nursing for Johns Hopkins Emergency Medicine, a position she has held since 1993.

Kopicki joins environment panel

Alex Kopicki, a developer with Manekin LLC, has been appointed by Howard County Executive Ken Ulman to the county's new Commission on the Environment and Sustainability.

The 21-member volunteer commission will study the county's environmental policies and practices and prepare a report comparing them with best practices used in other jurisdictions.

Kopicki, who joined Manekin in 2005, managed the development of Manekin's new corporate headquarters at 8601 Robert Fulton Drive, which has completed requirements to become the county's first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Silver Certified New Construction, awarded to environmentally responsible buildings.
