Block party

April 01, 2007|By [LORI SEARS]

To artist Nathan Sawaya, LEGOs are definitely not child's play. They're his art. And Saturday through May 20, Sawaya, a professional LEGO artist, will display more than 25 of his whimsical creations in The Art of the Brick exhibit at Lancaster Museum of Art in Pennsylvania.

Sawaya, who has created a variety of LEGO artwork, from mosaics of celebrities such as Alfred Hitchcock to a model of the Brooklyn Bridge, will display items built from 1 million standard LEGO building blocks.

Visitors to the museum can create their own LEGO works of art in the hands-on studio and then leave them on display for others to see.

The Lancaster Museum of Art is at 135 N. Lime St. in Lancaster. Hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays-Saturdays and noon-4 p.m. Sundays. Free admission. 717-394-3497 or
