Schools to hold job fair tomorrow

Carroll County public schools will hold an early-childhood job fair from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. tomorrow at Parr's Ridge Elementary School, 202 Watersville Road, Mount Airy.

Anyone seeking an early-childhood (pre-kindergarten to first grade) position with the school system is encouraged to attend. Staff will talk to candidates and conduct screening interviews for next school year.

Service academies to be session topic

Rep. Roscoe Bartlett will host an Academy Night information session about the U.S. service academies for high school students and their parents at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Jack B. Kussmaul Theater at Frederick Community College, 7932 Opossumtown Pike. Representatives from all five U.S. service academies will attend.

The presentation will run from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer session. Information: 202-225-2721.

SAT preparation classes scheduled

Two-session SAT preparation classes will be offered around the county as follows: from noon to 4:30 p.m. April 14 and 28 at South Carroll High School, 1300 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield; noon to 4:30 p.m. April 21 and 28 at Westminster High School, 1225 Washington Road, and at Century High, 355 Ronsdale Road, Eldersburg; and noon to 4:30 p.m. May 12 and 19 at Liberty High, 5855 Bartholow Road, Eldersburg.

Tuition is $185, including materials. Information: 410-442- 1600.

Prekindergarten registration open

The Carroll County public schools' prekindergarten program is accepting applications for the 2007-2008 school year.

Children must be 4 years old by Sept. 1 and may be accepted by priority:

First priority: Families that qualify under the free and reduced-price meal guidelines or who are homeless.

Second priority: Children with limited proficiency in English or who have been participants in Even Start, Head Start, HIPPY or Families Learning Together.

Third priority: Children with academic needs and children with social/emotional needs, as shown by the prekindergarten assessment process.

Prekindergarten is available at these elementary schools: Charles Carroll, 410-751-3211; Eldersburg, 410-751-3520; Elmer Wolfe, 410-751-3307; Manchester, 410-751-3410; Robert Moton, 410-751-3610; Spring Garden, 410-751-3433; Taneytown, 410-751-3260; and William Winchester, 410-751-3230.

Public schools also accept early entrance applications to prekindergarten for students who turn 4 years old after Sept. 1 and before Dec. 1 and are eligible for free or reduced-price meals.

Deadline for all applications is May 1.

Early entrance open for kindergarten

Carroll County public schools have approved early entrance to kindergarten waiver procedures for children who do not meet the state birth date cut off of Sept. 1.

Children who demonstrate exceptional ability and who turn 5 years old after Sept. 1 and before Dec. 1 may submit an application for early entrance.

Kindergarten waiver packets are available at elementary schools. Completed packets must be returned by May 1.
